Although the stockholders no longer own the Frederic Golf Course, many remain members. The Club is still a privately owned course open to the public. It is truly one of the more enjoyable courses in Northwestern Wisconsin for all levels of golfers. Today Frederic Golf Course is a beautifully manicured 18-hole course with mature trees, lush greens and challenging fairways. He also kept long time employees Superintendent Ray Amundson, Manager Joan Spencer and Melissa Runnels, making the transition virtually seamless.
His first course of action was a building remodel with a focus on a new kitchen that would be equipt to make more healthy, restaurant quality food as opposed to the prior grill menu. Tim has brought a fresh new outlook to Frederic Golf Course. Tim Vasatka and his brother Mike Vasatka purchased the course in November of 2015. In the fall of 2015, the Stockholders voted to sell the golf course to a private party. Despite the problems, the eighteen hole course opened in July 2000.
This time the new grass seed was planted only to have heavy rains come and wash out some areas as many as five times. Not unlike during the original construction, again the Club ran into problems. In 1998, the stockholders voted to add an additional nine holes to the course. Greens keeper, Tom Funne, had to return to the course several times each evening to move sprinklers from one green to the next. To correct the problem, the village ran irrigation pipes from town to provide water to the course. The Club had two wells drilled both proving inadequate to keep the new grass seed wet enough to survive. Getting adequate water to the course was one of them. The first year had unexpected problems as new businesses sometimes do.
The course opened for business during the summer of 1957 as a private course open to the public. Much of the work force included volunteers who worked Sundays cutting down trees, picking rocks, and planting grass seed. The land was purchased and work began on the nine-hole course. To help fund the ambitious project, they went door-to-door in the village asking residents and business owners to purchase shares of stock for $100. It all started in 1956, when a small group of men headed by Clifford Erickson decided there was a need for a golf course in Frederic. We all really appreciate it and we all will be back to Play It Again.Frederic Golf Course has a long history in the village of Frederic. So thank you federick Golf Course for allowing us to get in and play that Saturday. Greens were very challenging for they were slow I'm always used to fast greens so this is very difficult for me but I loved it and I love this course and will be back. Overall I would recommend this course to anybody who wants to play a good course. And again this course would work for any level of handicap they have multiple tee boxes. They always stopped and asked us how we were doing. Customer service again was off the charts unbelievably great people.
